If you receive a low battery notification from your app, or you notice a low battery alert on the lock itself, you should replace your batteries as soon as possible. The app will automatically create a work order for your community’s maintenance team to replace device batteries when they fall below 30%. However, you can replace them yourself, if desired.
For locks that have capacitive touch screens, if your lock batteries die before you have a chance to change them, you can use a 9-volt battery under the keypad to temporarily power the lock to gain entry. Once you’ve gained entry, replace your batteries if possible.
Replacing Batteries in Yale Lock:
To get started, you will need a Phillips screwdriver and four non-rechargeable AA batteries. Once you have those, follow these steps:
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the black battery cover on the interior side of the lock (the screw is attached to the cover by a locking mechanism so it will not fall free after loosening it)
- Slide the battery cover up to remove it
- Remove old batteries (do not mix old and new batteries)
- Insert the four new AA batteries ensuring the polarity of the batteries (+/-) match that inside the lock’s battery compartment (depending on the model, the lock will emit some kind of audible tone and the illuminator light will flash red and blue)
- Replace the battery cover
- Tighten the battery cover’s screw using the Phillips screwdriver
These instructions are applicable to Yale Assure Lock Push Button Deadbolt (YRD216), Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD226), Yale Assure Lock Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD246), and the Yale Assure Lock SL Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD256) lock.
